The recent events in the past few days regarding the commissioner nomination have clearly shown the kind of leadership we have in the land. It goes to say that we’re not ready to bring positive change and development.
No community can make meaningful progress with leaders who only pride on personal interest above public interest. The reward for labour is profit. The idea of who work less or who didn’t work to hijack leadership from those who actually worked is alien to good conscience. A common saying that “Monkey dey work, baboon the chop” has become the new norm that has characterized our contemporary politics particularly in Bassa Local Government. This kind of dangerous politics have ripple effect on our democratic process which has actually given rise to unpatriotic element within the circle of leadership emboldening them to oppress, intimidate and sideline the real people who fought hard to win election for the party.
In 2019, late Alumka of blessed memory worked day and night to ensure victory for APC in Bassa Local Government, he fought hard, transversed the entire terrain of the land, canvassed support, risk his life at the expense of that election and at the tail end, they ganged up against him from the land, wrote series of petitions against him and that became his downward trajectory in politics.
Fast forward to 2023, History is about to repeat itself again in the land. Those whose financial and physical commitment were insignificant to our victory are now the one deciding our own political fate in an election where we permanently relocated to the local government to work day and night.
One thing we must take into cognisance as a people is that ” it’s one thing to hijack leadership it’s another thing for your leadership to bring blessings”. Personal interest must not override our collective progress as a people. We’re too knowledgeable, skilled and learned to be under
